Dynamic Content

Sessions have been designed to be as interactive and interesting as possible, with a mix of pro-con debates on controversial topics, surgical masterclasses with video technique pearls, clinical case discussions, as well as strategic roadmapping for furthering the interests of the region.

Registration

The pre-conference Asia Regional Programme is subject to a standalone registration fee, or is available at a discounted rate when combined with registration for the main Annual Scientific Meeting.

Programme Overview

Below is a draft outline programme, with details of what to expect.

The latest faculty and scheduling details can be viewed in the live programme grid.

Session Overview

This ASIA session focuses on real-world decision-making and reproducible surgical techniques in hip preservation surgery. Through structured debates, video-based masterclasses, and open case discussions, the session emphasizes practical indications, technical execution, and salvage strategies frequently encountered in Asian clinical practice.

13:00 - 14:00 Module I: Pro-Con Debates (Pro 7 min, Con 7 min, Discussion & Audience Voting 16 min)

13:00 - 13:30 Debate 1: Early Hip Osteoarthritis: Hip Arthroscopy vs. Early Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) — Where Is the Line?

Focus: Defining early OA in contemporary practice; Predictors of failure after arthroscopy; Safe indications for arthroscopy; When early THA provides better predictability and value; Patient counseling and shared decision-making

13:30 - 14:00 Debate 2: Borderline Hip Dysplasia: Arthroscopy Alone vs. Alternative or Combined Strategies — Where Do We Draw the Line?

Focus: Stability assessment beyond LCEA; Indications and limitations of arthroscopy alone; Risk factors for postoperative instability; Role of alternative or combined strategies; Long-term joint preservation

14:00 - 15:00 Module II: Surgical Masterclass: Video Techniques & Tips (20 minutes per speaker (video-based presentation 15 minutes + Q&A 5 minutes))

Concept: A stepwise, video-based masterclass covering fundamental techniques, capsular management, and salvage strategies in hip surgery

14:00 - 14:20 Masterclass I – Fundamentals

Theme: Fundamental Arthroscopic Techniques for a Smooth and Reproducible Hip Arthroscopy

Key Topics: Patient positioning and setup; Safe and efficient portal placement; Avoiding common intraoperative pitfalls; Workflow optimization; Achieving reproducibility and safety

14:20 - 14:40 Masterclass II – Capsular Management

Theme: Capsular Management in Hip Arthroscopy: Technical Tips for Stability, Mobility, and Reproducible Outcomes

Key Topics: Principles of capsulotomy and exposure; Indications for capsular closure and application; Technical pearls for reliable capsular repair; Avoiding postoperative instability and stiffness; Common technical mistakes and prevention strategies

14:40 - 15:00 Masterclass III – Salvage

Theme: Arthroscopic Management of FAI After Pelvic Osteotomy (RAO/PAO): Indications, Pitfalls, and Salvage Strategies

Key Topics: Post-osteotomy morphology and biomechanics; Indications and limits of arthroscopy after pelvic osteotomy; Technical challenges and risk management

When arthroscopy works—and when it does not; Lessons learned from failures

15:00 - 15:30 Break

15:30 - 17:00 Module III: Interactive Clinical Case Discussion (15 minutes per case (5 min presentation + 10 min discussion))

Concept: An interactive discussion focusing on challenging clinical scenarios, failed procedures, complications, and uncommon cases to promote open discussion and shared learning

Theme: Difficult, Failed, and Unusual Cases in Hip Preservation: Lessons from Asia

17:00 - 18:00 Module IV: Strategic Roadmap: Future Activities

Concept: An informal roundtable discussion to explore future directions of ISHA Asia, including leadership structure, communication, educational activities, and potential collaborative initiatives

Focus: Future direction of ISHA Asia as a regional community; Improving communication and collaboration across Asia; Educational activities such as webinars or focused courses; Exploring realistic next steps without formal decision-making
